The rapid population growth in many countries has resulted in too great a demand on natural resources. This is especially true of desert countries such as Oman, where fertile soil, water and other resources are severely limited.

Additional pressures include increased development leading to loss of wildlife habitat, increased energy demand, greater infrastructure requirements for sanitation, clean water and waste management.

Sustainable practices and technologies are available, both ancient and modern, that can help us harness our resources and utilize them with optimum efficiency leaving them intact for future generations.
